BALL POSSESSION TRANSITIONING TO BALL POSSESSION OPPONENT
An immediate transition between attack and defence focusing on limiting quick forward passing and movement of the opponent by compressing the field as small as possible when possession is lost and pressing the ball carrier immediately, limiting opponents ability to pass forward.
PRINCIPLES OF PLAY
- Pro-active thoughts and actions;
- Recognising the moment when we are about to lose the ball
- Urgency in pressing/delaying man on the ball attempting to win the ball near location where ball was lost
- Immediate transitioning to get behind the ball in a compact manner
- If possible hold your ground and do not retreat
- Pressure is done collectively to force an error as opposed to waiting for opponents to make an error
Moment 1.0 Immediate transition into attacking positions after winning the ball near the scoring zone
Team Task - Win the ball and look to progress forward with dribbling, passing and forward movements.
Player task

- 2,5 – Get high and wide to support the ball & create over loads.
- 3,4,6– Protect the space behind you by staying compact and blocking passing lanes (pre-transition); Provide depth to ensure we have supportive options behind the ball for the player who wins the ball (post-transition)
- 8,10 – Ensure the opponent cannot dribble or pass forward (pre-transition); Win the ball & progress forwards by dribbling or by finding a player who can receive the ball in a superior position (post-transition)
- 7,11 – Get high and wide early to isolate or overload the opponent.
- 9 – Stay high to stretch the pitch; try and receive in scoring areas.

CONCEPTS
Winning and dominating the opponent requires proactive actions to occur in key moments by indiviudals and teams and need to valued, recognised and rewarded.
Tactical Superiority
- Desperate to protect the goal when the opponent has broken through our lines
- Step up when the ball is played backwards
- Following in a shot on goal anticipating a mistake to be cleared
- Stop the opponent playing quickly when we are disorganised by delaying/limiting forward options
